Knowing the truth is more than just knowing facts and data. It is true that knowing accurate information about a variety of subjects that impact our lives can be a good thing. But the kind of truth that will set you free goes deeper. When Jesus said “. . . the truth will set you free” He was telling us that believing in Him and following Him at a deeper level will positively impact our lives at the core.
The Truth and Believing in Jesus…
Believing in Jesus means to believe in who Jesus is, what Jesus did, what Jesus is currently doing, and what Jesus is going to do. We looked at the first three of these in the previous post, if you missed it you can check it out here. We have yet to fully address faithfully following Jesus, which is what we will talk about in the next blog post. Today we are looking at what Jesus will do in the future…
- Question: What will Jesus do in the future?
- Answer: The Bible is clear that Jesus will return one day in great power and glory as the “Son of Man” and the “King of kings and Lord of lords.” This is end-times stuff, check out some of what the Bible says about this:
“There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting from fear and the expectation of the things that are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
Luke 21:25-28
In these verses of Scripture in the book of Luke, Jesus is clearly pointing to a time when He is coming back. So, what will Jesus do in the future? For one thing, He will return here to earth in the future.
The Truth About the Second Coming of Christ…
Check out this passage in the Book of Revelation…
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many crowns; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written: “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.””
Revelation 19:11-16
This passage of Scripture, for the most part, is self-explanatory. Isn’t it? Jesus is on the white horse, and the angels of heaven are following with Him as He returns.
The second coming of Christ is a reality, even the kind of thing that would make a great movie… Just saying… A “CinemaScore A+ Rated” blockbuster. It would also be a good witness to the truth of God’s Word and what we as humankind can look forward to. God has a plan, and we are in the process of carrying that plan out.
He was here on earth as a human in the beginning of the first century A.D. On that visit, He came to pay the price for the sins of the world. And that is what made it possible for people like you and me to have relationship with God. Of course, the way you activate this in your own life is to:
- Turn to God.
- Confess that you have sinned.
- Turn from those sins.
- And put your faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He paid for the price for those sins.
I explain more about how to do this here…
The second coming of Christ is going to be very different. He will come forcefully, establish world government, and rule on the throne here on earth for 1,000 years. After this, events lead us into the “great white throne” judgment, then into eternity. I talk more about this in some of my videos.
A Deeper Study of the Truth…
Believing in who Jesus is, what He has done, what He is doing, and what He will do is only part of the way there. It’s only part of the equation. Merely accepting the facts. You must also faithfully follow Jesus as a priority in your life to really know what He means when He said “. . . the truth will set you free.” No one said you have to do this. But Jesus said it is your opportunity do it. And if you do, it will transform your life in a good way.
