Bible Translations
Reading the Bible is an essential part of growing your faith, but sometimes it can be difficult to know which version or translation you should read. We can help you with this. When it comes to Bible translations, there are three basic kinds…
Formal Equivalence
Versions of the Bible that have been translated as closely as possible word for word from the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts.
Dynamic Equivalence
Versions of the Bible that have been translated as closely as possible idea for idea from the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts.
Paraphrased
Versions of the Bible that are enhanced, and can provide additional explanation to help us better understand passages that are hard to interpret.
Which one is best?
We recommend using a formal equivalence version when reading and studying the Bible. Also, a good understanding of any passage of Scripture will benefit from reading and comparing multiple versions. A little bit of surfing on the web using these terms will show you which Bibles fall into these categories.
