Discipleship and Small Groups Training
Dr. Nelson Briggs is committed to working with and strengthening the local church for witness and discipleship through renewal and training. It all starts with evangelism. People need to move in faith to first turn to God in confession of sin and repentance, and believe in Jesus Christ. Then they need to grow in faith. And churches are a valuable resource that can help that process happen.
Who Does The Training
Nelson conducts the training with church staff. His qualifications include researching and studying discipleship processes, small groups ministry, and church operations in graduate school. This also includes starting, leading, and multiplying small groups, integrating what he has learned into designing and teaching a class for a very well known Bible college, and coaching pastors, leadership teams, and ministry and denominational leaders through the discipleship and small groups and visioneering process.
“I love the church I attend and have been an active member since 2004, Real Life Ministries in Post Falls, Idaho, and they do discipleship and small groups the right way. During this time, I have been involved in what they do and how they do it, and have also had the opportunity to work with the leaders of my church to show others how to do it. I am convinced that a custom individualized process will work for you and your ministry.”
Nelson Briggs (D.Min.)
The Basics
At the core of small groups ministry is the idea of the church as an equipping ministry structure, and using small groups and teams as a more sure way of facilitating discipleship from the pulpit to the people in attendance at the church.
This can also be used to reach beyond those in attendance who may consider an invite to a small group from their friends, acquaintances, co-workers, and neighbors.
This is simply a Biblically accurate, theologically sound, culturally sensitive, socially focused, and time-tested way of being intentional in building people up in the faith.
Where Training Takes Place
Since force fitting a one-size-fits-all approach to your church can mess things up, this training will be carried out at your location. It is important to do it this way in order to factor in the culture of your church and the practices and leadership that are currently in place. Integration with your ministry is key, whether that be denominational specifics, church governance, etc. The standard time allotment is one week, lasts from Monday to Sunday, and follow up coaching is available.
Major Training Sections
The training starts with establishing what the Great Commission is, and with the example of the apostles in mind, together we will determine what it means to subscribe to its overarching purpose for the church and all that we do. Covering each of the five statements given by Jesus that comprise the Great Commission, and how to intentionally, effectively, and efficiently carry it out through the structure and processes of your ministry. This includes everything from personal example and involvement in small groups, sermon planning to communicate messaging objectives, and leading through change and gaining commitment. Time is also taken to consider the personal spiritual development of the pastors and leaders that will be involved. Then the training shifts to following three core elements:
Making Disciples
What is a disciple? Stages of development. Spiritual gifts, and integrating concepts with gifts based ministry.
The Organization
Including the equipping ministry structure and small groups, and the processes, philosophy, and ideals that are involved.
Making It Happen
Including organizational, tactical, and functional strategies, and alignment of systems and processes.
This is then followed up with tools and techniques for monitoring, evaluating, and reworking activities and benchmarks. Including qualitative and quantitative growth measures. Training package includes reading materials, assignments, and after training resources.
